The impact of AI on the arts

This is one of the most discussed - and misunderstood - topics in creative circles today. While no one can say with certainty how it will evolve, at the moment, and hopefully always, it can’t replace human creativity.
Artists have always incorporated new tools, from oil paints and portable pigments to photography and digital media. AI is the latest addition to that long lineage. What makes it different is its speed and reach, but what remains unchanged is the essential spark: human imagination, intention and interpretation.
At the moment - and I can’t see how this will change, AI can’t replace the human individuality, experience and soul. It can only copy not invent; the depth, complexities and uniqueness of every artist can’t be recreated, but it might encourage us to rethink what we value in art, including originality, process, intuition, emotion - mistakes and flaws! Rather than diminishing creativity, AI may challenge us to become more inventive and more reflective about what makes our work uniquely human.
